Youth Music Ensemble
The Youth Music Ensemble at the Community Church is made up of Middle School and High School youth. There is a concentration on contemporary music, with the choir members asked to contribute ideas for songs and arrangements. Instrumentalists as well as singers are encouraged to be a part of the group, which is reflected in the name.
Music is arranged in a variety of styles, from unison to SATB, depending on the song and make-up of the group. During the school year we generally meet for an hour every other Sunday afternoon at 5pm, just before High School Youth Group, in the Straley Room, and for 30 minutes prior to any service where we sing. The goal is to sing at all Multi-Generational services throughout the year. When involved with the Sunday service, we usually sing at both services, meeting at 8:45am for a rehearsal, and enjoying bagels in the Music Office between services. Singing in the second service is usually scheduled early, so members can leave without staying for the entire 2nd service. The Youth Music Ensemble has been on hiatus this past year, but a revival is in the works for the coming church year. The hope is to make the group as creative and engaging as possible, with as much control as possible in terms of song choice, arrangements and presentation given over to the members. Material usually covers a wide range of styles, and is always chosen with the service topic in mind. In this past few years, for instance, the Youth Music Ensemble has performed: “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield “Believe in Yourself (“Arthur” Theme Song)” by Judy Henderson and Jerry de Villiers Jr. "Soon Love Soon” by Vienna Teng “Rise Up” by Cassandra Monique Batie and Jennifer DeCilveo (originally sung by Andra Day) “Thanksgiving Song” by Mary Chapin Carpenter Contact music director Glenn Mehrbach ([email protected]) for more details. |
