Flaming Chalices Softball Team
Note:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, softball play was suspended for 2020. In 2021, the Town of Chapel Hill re-opened the softball fields, but there was not enough interest among the local churches to resume the church softball league. There is still no church softball league in 2024. In the meantime, if you are interested in playing softball, please contact team manager Nils Brubaker ([email protected]) to be added to the team email list. We periodically arrange practice sessions during the summer and early fall.
The Community Church Flaming Chalices has participated in the Chapel Hill Summer Softball League since 1999. The league is recreational and relaxed: there are no umpires and no called strikes. All games are played at Homestead Park in Chapel Hill, on Sundays from June through August, between the times of 2 pm and 6 pm.
We always welcome new players, male or female, age 13 and over. No previous softball experience required. Come join us for this season of fun and fellowship! For more info, contact Manager Nils "Wheels" Brubaker, 919-968-4529 (home), 919-815-1721 (cell) or email.
2024 SCHEDULE
Regular Season:
No games scheduled
Please plan to arrive 30 minutes before scheduled game time in order to warm up and so that the manager can create a lineup and batting order. Be prompt: if we do not have a minimum of 9 players at scheduled start time, we forfeit the game.
In case of threatening weather, come anyway. It may be raining where you live, but not at the ballfield. Call the Chapel Hill Parks & Rec Athletic Hotline for weather and other last-minute cancellations: 919-685-8277. Or call Manager Nils Brubaker (cell 919-815-1721) to check for last minute conditions and report your status.
Directions: Martin Luther King Blvd (NC 86) north from downtown Chapel Hill. Turn left at Homestead Rd., then the first right at Northern Park Drive. Go to the end of the parking lot. The softball fields are on the right, down an asphalt path, past the basketball court and over a wooden bridge. Field #1 is the first ballfield, and Field #2 is the second.
