What is the
|
The Chalice Fund was authorized by a resolution adopted by the congregation on December 14, 2008. Its purpose is to support the mission of the church both Within and Beyond These Walls, through special projects funded outside the limits of our annual operating budget.
|
How is our fund managed? |
The Chalice Fund is managed by the Chalice Fund Committee, a committee elected by the members of the congregation at the church's Annual Meeting. Approximately 3% of the fund’s total value may be awarded each year to support projects that can enhance the mission of the church. The committee, in consultation with the Board of Trustees, determines the best way to manage and disburse the assets of the fund.
The Chalice Fund Resolution and Plan of Operation can be found here, its Fund Distribution Policy here, and its Grants Management Procedure here. The fund is currently invested with the Unitarian Universalist Common Endowment Fund, whose mission is to provide a strong portfolio that also reflects the values and goals of socially responsible investing. |
What is our goal for the size of the Chalice fund? |
The Chalice Fund gives back to the church through the application of annual returns on our principle investment to projects that further the church's mission. Although we have been able to obtain healthy returns for our fund due to prudent investments, the current fund level means that these returns are still only able to make a minor impact on this. One of the principle goals of the Chalice Fund Committee is to substantially increase the Chalice Fund through estate and other gifts by our members and friends.
To give you an idea of the scope of this, each one million dollar increase in the Chalice Fund allows us to apply $30,000 each year to projects that further this mission. You can envision the kinds of changes Community Church can make within and beyond our walls when we have this level of funding each year. As a start, the goal of the Chalice Fund Committee is to move the balance of the fund through the $1,000,000 mark. This will insure that the fund can make a significant impact on the congregation’s priorities long into the future. |
