UUkes
The UUkes began with members of the Community Church, but has since expanded to include members of the local community. Here's some information from the Meetup page. They sing often in the larger community, and usually sing in church services a couple of times a year, as well as other church events such as the Music Gala and Family Dinners.
What we’re aboutIf you're in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina area, and you want to have fun playing the uke with friendly people, the UUkes welcome you!
We are open to all skill levels, including beginners. This group was started by members of the Community Church of Chapel Hill (Unitarian Universalist) who wanted to play ukulele together. Since then, membership has expanded beyond church members, but we maintain our affiliation with the church and perform at services and other church events, including the annual music gala. When we get together, we play a lot from the book The Daily Ukulele, by Liz and Jim Beloff. The last time we checked, Amazon had a pretty good price. Enough of us have it now that you can look on with someone a few times, but if you're going to come regularly, you'll probably want your own copy. In addition, we have compiled a songbook of other tunes that we play frequently. When you come to one of our jams we will supply you a copy or instruct you how to download it from the Web. Members and visitors are also welcome to bring song sheets of their own choosing to our jams. Please bring at least a dozen copies (16 or 18 even better!) to pass around if you do this.
