buildings and grounds
About Us
Buildings & Grounds Volunteers support all the functions at our church by helping to keep the facilities in good condition, planning and performing routine maintenance and necessary upgrades, and keeping our flower beds and the rest of the grounds in good shape. (In addition, our church’s staff oversees many similar efforts.)
What can I do to help out?
First, we hope everyone will keep an eye out for malfunctions anywhere in the church buildings or on the grounds, and notify church Administrator Franklin Hirsch with a note in the mailbox in the office foyer, or an email to [email protected]
Next in order of commitment is to help out when you can, on various maintenance and improvement tasks:
B & G volunteers meet for a monthly WorkPARTY on the first Monday morning of each month at 9 AM in the Courtyard, regardless of weather or holidays, where we perform minor but necessary maintenance and upgrades around the church building, tend the gardens, and finish up with lunch together at a local restaurant if feasible, or (thanks to Covid) brown-bag it at the church. Together, we keep our buildings and grounds looking good and working well, while we learn valuable home & garden care, maintenance and repair skills from one another.
Outside of WorkPARTY, some of us choose to help with bigger projects, such as maintaining and/or adding to the gardens; trimming back trees and undergrowth; painting; or minor plumbing, mechanical or electrical work.
And a few of us serve on the B & G Committee, whose members conduct and oversee annual planning and budgeting activities, as well as hiring contractors for jobs too big or too specialized for volunteer work; setting specifications, requesting bids, and overseeing the work.
Please consider attending a WorkPARTY to see why we say that the Work is just the collateral of the PARTY.
