PROJECT: We are making quilted placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients in Durham and Orange Counties. On the Community Day of Service we will be rolling each placemat, tying a ribbon and gift tag on, and bagging groups. We will also be making a few more placemats.  This service project is indoors; masks are required.

ORGANIZING TEAM: Community Service Ministry: Habitat for Humanity
PROJECT: The team will work with Habitat staff and other volunteers to bring a home closer to move-in ready. The planned work is landscaping at a house under construction.
Detail on the tasks and any changes based on weather and current needs of the home site will be available on March 02. Volunteers will sign up here on the Habitat website, as well as this church website. All minor volunteers must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian on file prior to volunteering.
 Proof of vaccination is required.

This project is done in collaboration with the UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health. Meet at church at 9 a.m.; Drive to the farm by 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Wear gardening clothes and shoes appropriate to the weather, bring water bottles and masks. This service project is outdoors, but masks are still required.

FARM WORK AT Wildflower Lane Farm
​to provide food relief to local children

​​ORGANIZING TEAM: Endowment Committee 
PROJECT: Wildflower Lane Farm, using volunteer labor, partners with TABLE to provide food relief to local children who are food insecure by taking the money and middlemen out of farming. In 2021 TABLE supplied $15,000 in funds to the farm with a return of $80,000 in organic produce. If the weather is good, volunteers will be working outside in the vegetable gardens. If it is rainy or cold, volunteers will be working with seedlings inside the hoop house, with appropriate social distancing. This service project is outdoors; masks are optional.

FARM WORK AT The Garden at Spring Forest
​TO PROVIDE FOOD TO food banks

​​ORGANIZING TEAM: Endowment Committee 
PROJECT: The Garden at Spring Forest is a not-for-profit CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), project of a United Methodist intentional community that enables them to generously support area food banks. They provide mentoring in natural gardening methods to their volunteers and guests. Their international friendship community garden--a place of hospitality and healing for refugees--is under development. Volunteers will have an orientation and guidance for the tasks of the day. People should bring appropriate hats and garden gloves and wear boots that can get muddy. Volunteers should bring a bag lunch if they wish to join the staff around the fire pit from 12 - 1 p.m. Beverages will be provided. Proof of vaccination is required. This service project is outdoors, but masks are still required.

FARM WORK AT Common Ground Ecovillage

​​ORGANIZING TEAM: Endowment Committee 
PROJECT: Common Ground Ecovillage is a farm-based community aspiring to live sustainably and in harmony with each other and the land. Their mission is to establish and nurture an integrated agrarian system which sustains and is sustained by the Common Ground community, restores and protects the land, and provides learning experiences. Volunteers will help with planting and weeding in the large vegetable patch, with cleaning up the 4 miles of trails after a long winter, or will join in other tasks according to individual skills. Honor system for vaccinations. Please let them know if you are unvaccinated and agree to wear a mask.
LOCATION:  Common Ground Ecovillage

​TIME: 1 - 5 p.m.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  The more the merrier. There will be tasks to suit all inclinations and abilities.
CAN CHILDREN PARTICIPATE? WHAT AGES? Yes; children of any age are welcome, and it is assumed that parents will be responsible for and choose tasks appropriate to the ages of their children. There is a swing and a little treehouse for kids.

PROJECT: Hand out PLEDGE PACKETS on the Day of Service (morning and/or afternoon) and Sunday, March 6th during Coffee Hour. You can choose one 'shift' or multiples. This service project is indoors; masks are required.
