Let's Keep Talking: Racial Equity Challenge
January-March 2021
This program is aimed to help us deepen our understanding of racism and better work for racial equity in the world. The Challenge is for people participated in the Challenge in the fall and and want to continue the work. The Challenge is also for new participants. It is similar to Fall Challenge and includes readings, videos, activities and small group discussions to reflect on our learning. We will meet every other week for an hour on Zoom in facilitated small groups (limited to 6 participants each) Thursdays 7-8 PM. This is powerful work and more powerful when we work together so come join the Challenge. The Challenge meets January 14, January 28, February 11, February 25, and March 11.
The Let's Keep Talking Challenge Curriculum is based on the 21 Day Challenge curated by Eddie Moore. Let's Keep Talking Racial Equity Challenge Curriculum |
RACIAL Equity office Hours
Talking about race can be difficult, and initiating conversations about it can be intimidating. The church has been working on building open and safe spaces to have these discussions, and in that spirit we would like to invite you to our Racial Equity Office Hours! This will be a zoom meeting open twice a week where people are encouraged to join into the ongoing conversation of racial justice in America. People can bring questions, experiences they are unsure about or wish to reflect more on, or just general thoughts and feelings. Racial Equity Office Hours are a space where people are encouraged to tackle challenging questions and reflect on their own interactions with race throughout their lives. There will be a few experienced facilitators present to provide topics and guide the discussions in general. The format will be very casual, and people are encouraged to drop in or drop out whenever they get the chance. Office hours will be consistently held starting January 17, every Thursday at 2pm and Sunday at 5pm. We hope to see you there! For zoom link, contact Dave Klibanow at d.klibanow @ frontier.com .
29 Day Racial Equity Challenge
September-october 2020
The Spiritual Exploration for Adults (SEA) and Living Our Covenant with Intention (LOCI) Ministry Teams organized a church-wide 29 Day Racial Equity Challenge (Challenge), held September 3 – October 8 2020.
Based on the 21-day Challenge curated by Eddie Moore, our 5-session event challenged our community to a daily act (read an article, watch a video, reflect, notice, or act) aimed at helping us, individually and collectively, deepen our understanding of racism and white supremacy.
Each week participants engaged individually in common learnings and then gathered over Zoom in facilitated small groups to discuss and share their own experiences and insights. Many people have been studying and practicing anti-racism on their own or with other groups; a key value of this Challenge is that we were doing it together and together we are stronger. Altogether 65 people participated in the Challenge.
During our last session participants shared their ideas for next steps we could take individually and collectively. Via an online evaluation we gathered additional ideas about participant’s thoughts about the Challenge and where we could go from here.
