Triangle United Bridge Brigade
Triangle United Bridge Brigade every third Saturday of the month (6/20, 7/18, 8/15, etc): Flex your civic muscles and join us at the Triangle United Bridge Brigade every 3rd Saturday at the S. Columbia/54 bridge (between Merritt's Grill and the James Taylor Bridge). Visibility demonstrations are crucial for defending democracy by providing "social proof" that sustains resistance, shaping public norms, and making pro-democracy sentiments visible to counter apathy, all while signaling to the public that they are not alone in their concerns. Park along Holland Dr - meet up at 9:20 am at the corner of Holland Dr/Purefoy Rd.
Siembra ESBE Training
A Siembra ESBE Training will be held at the Community Church on June 13 from 9:30-11:30 am. This is an opportunity to learn about and be a part of Siembra’s plan to build a diverse web of groups and connections for a strong, statewide community, similar to what Minnesota displayed during its ICE raids. Through online and in-person surveys, listening teams will collect stories, concerns, and priorities of our neighbors across NC. The survey is available at: bit.ly/esbemarku - use this link to learn what the listening tour is capturing and to share your own concerns & priorities.
The near goal is to build a Working People’s agenda focused on what North Carolinians want for schools, wages, healthcare, housing, climate, transit, childcare, and more. The resulting mandate will be presented to statewide candidates at a July 18 “Enough Should Be Enough” Convention, followed by a major town hall on August 1. Long-term, this network will be used to mobilize and organize to act on that agenda.

Since May of 2020, North Carolina UUs and friends have gathered on Fridays to take action and experience the joy and power of community. Every Friday at 11:00am we recap the past week and take action on the issues impacting our state and country. And there is always great music to help us feel the justice movement in our bones! ALL are welcome! We are also blessed to be joined by Unitarian Universalists, our beloved North Carolina justice partners, and dear friends from outside our state (shout out to our West Virginia fam!).
You can join us every Friday at 11:00 am via this Zoom link. And if you can't make it on Fridays, you can still take action at any time - just check out our Weekly action list. And sign up for our Weekly Friday Action Hour Email that includes a promo of the week's actions, Zoom link, and link to our Actions Google Doc.

Join our weekly protest
Join us every Monday, 7:30-9 am or 4:30–6:00 PM at the corner of Franklin St & Elliott Rd in Chapel Hill for a weekly, nonpartisan protest and call to action. Across the political spectrum, Americans are disillusioned by leaders who put power over people. We gather to build community, spark hope, and inspire action. Bring a friend. Bring a sign. Wear your yellow Side With Love T-shirt, if you have one. Speak up for immigrant rights, free speech, healthcare, social security, the environment, the Constitution and the rule of law, reproductive freedom, and the many other issues close to our hearts. Bonus points for signs that encourage others to move beyond honking and help turn awareness into action. Free parking at Church of Reconciliation, 110 N Elliott Rd.
uu the vote in action
In January members of the Community Church CH UU participated in the monthly protest outside the Durham Crisis Pregnancy Center. Such centers function primarily as anti-abortion centers, where mis-information is given to women seeking help. We were part of the group from Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom. Join us for the monthly pickets.
Faith leaders advocacy day
On Tuesday, May 13, Faith leaders from the Community Church Chapel Hill UU joined with other faith leaders active with Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom. We were broken into small groups and met with targeted legislators to speak with them about a series of bills of great concern. The bills were introduced and supported by conservative evangelical Christians. Our group of progressive faith leaders worked with and met with legislators to voice our faith and value concerns about bills that are anti-trans people, anti-DEI, anti-teen medical rights, and a broadly, stated book ban in schools. The morning ended with a media conference. Reverend Kaleb Graves spoke on behalf of the North Carolina Justice Ministry UU. If you would like to help out with such efforts, please check in with people active at the church’s Side with Love table.
Interfaith Voices for reproductive freedom
Members of the Side with Love team at the Community Church joined with the other 12 congregations of Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom for the advocacy day on March 25 at the NC General Assembly. The day was organized by Equality NC and Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. We were speaking up for people’s rights to control their own bodies.
You can vote work in action
On Sunday, August 25, thirty four people from the Community Church attended the You Can Vote training session. Attendees learned all about how to register people to vote and then to follow up with them close to the election if they have not yet voted. It was an exciting afternoon with great training, terrific attendance and good food. Wendy Jebens organized the training with good help from the UU the Vote team at church. Please join us.
After participating in training with You Can Vote, attended by several members of the Community Church, Wendy Jebens did voter registration at Durham’s Museum of Life and Science. Second You Can Vote training coming up at the Community Church on Aug. 25th from 12-2:00. Come join us.
