Our Mission
Inspired by the wisdom of diverse religious traditions and our own history of ethical engagement, we strive to nurture spiritual growth, support and care for each other, and effect change through our love for the world.

WelcomeAt
the Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist you will
find Buddhists and Jews, agnostics and Christians gathered to celebrate
what bridges our differences: the power of love, the struggle for
justice, and the belief that every person is precious: gay or straight,
white or black, of whatever faith or nation.
Our church was founded in 1953 in a challenge to the racial segregation that prevailed in North Carolina, led by Reverend Charlie Jones. We helped found the first integrated preschool in the state. Ever since, our members have believed in a religion that widens the circle of freedom and compassion. We welcome you, whatever your background and wherever you find yourself in your journey. “Spiritual but not religious?” “Searching but not sure?” “None of the above?” You may find a home here. Unitarian Universalists are united more by the questions they ask (“Who is my neighbor? Why do bad things happen? Where do we find strength to face adversity and loss?”) than by any single set of answers. Children, youth, students and adults will find professionally led study groups and classes, music from Brahms to boogie, and thoughtful sermons that touch the heart. Join us on Sunday to stretch your spirit. We are a Welcoming CongregationWe are a congregation which has historically stood for the civil rights of all people especially those affected by racism, and homophobia. We are a Welcoming Congregation,
celebrating and affirming the active presence in our congregation of
gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and heterosexual members and
friends, and their families. We are actively engaged in dialogue about
how to be a more racially diverse, multicultural, anti-oppressive
congregation.
