Religious Education Assistant (Part Time: 20 hours per week)
We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, organized, committed person to assist in the administration of our growing religious education program. The Religious Education Assistant is responsible for providing strong administrative support for the Religious Education Program for children, youth and adults, providing support and coordination for the program’s volunteers and youth staff, and provides leadership for the Middle School Religious Education Class.
Primary Responsibilities: Sunday morning program supervision, welcoming new families, preparing materials and curriculum for program, volunteer coordination, communication with families and program participants, and maintaining records and supplies. Provides leadership for Middle School Religious Education Class.
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Director of Religious Education.
Qualifications and skills required are:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
Ability to work effectively with youth, children and adults in a church setting
Enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, initiative, ability to work with youth and ability to work independently
Computer skills including word processing, email, social media, and website management.
Preferred but not required: Knowledge of Unitarian Universalism (UU) and working or volunteering in a UU congregation or other church setting.
Hours: 20 hours per week. The RE Assistant serves six hours per week from 8:00-2:00 on Sunday mornings (with one Sunday off every other month). Also inconsistent office hours during the week (at least 6 hours per week, including Tuesdays), some evening meetings and events (about 4-6 hours per month), and some work that can be done from home (about 2-4 hours per week).
Compensation: $15.00 per hour and modest benefits including paid leave (vacation, sick and holiday) health insurance, and retirement (vested after a year).

Specific Duties or Responsibilities
Sunday Coordination for Religious Education Program 8 AM-2:00 PM (One Sunday off every six weeks).
Sets up and cleans up the rooms for the RE Program
Checks-in volunteers and youth staff
Supervises youth staff
Welcomes families
Prepares name tags
Preparation of Materials for Religious Education Program
Purchases, assembles and prepares materials for the Religous Education program and events with particular responsibility for toddler and pre-k curriculum.
Volunteer and Youth Staff Coordination
Supervises paid youth staff
Communicates with volunteers (for all RE programs) and youth staff, including weekly reminders
Schedules volunteers and youth staff
Prepares monthly payroll for youth staff
Keeps list of paid childcare providers – make available to other groups
Arranges childcare for RE events and for Board events
Manages Registration Database, Attendance Records and Email lists
Prepares Class Books and attendance sheets weekly
Tracks RE attendance and statistics
Maintains RE Registration Database – adds registrations, produces reports from database on request, including update class registration lists
Maintains accurate email lists
Communication
Responsible for communication to program participants including reminders and announcments
Creates forms and polls
Updates Website
Stocks RE Welcome Table
Follows up with new families and those who are not attending regularly
Administative Support for Adult Religious Education Programs including Spiritual Exploration for Adults (SEA) and Covenant Groups
Maintaining website
Participant communication
Data input for evaluations
Publicity
Attends Weekly and Monthly meetings, including:
Planning meeting with DRE (weekly)
Church Staff meeting (Weekly)
Youth Ministry Team Meeting (3rd Monday)
Children’s Ministry Team Meeting (2nd Tuesday)
Youth Staff Meeting (3rd Sunday )
Serving as Lead Teacher for Middle School Religious Education
Inventories and maintains RE program supplies
Other Duties as Assigned.
