About Sunday Services

We have two Services each Sunday:
9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

November 8     “The Deconstructing Discontent”
Randy Lewis, Guest Minister

Many of us spend our lives constructing tales, belief systems, and ideologies, which then inform and enforce our realities. But when paradigms shift, old, outdated structures and traditions give way to new emerging ideas and new realities, and blind spots and misconceptions become exposed, individuals may undergo crises suddenly needing to deconstruct decades of social conditioning. Join me this Sunday as we explore the crossroads of tradition and change and what’s truly possible for a post-modern society.

For more information on our coming services click here.

Fiddler on the Roof

Picture
Performances are the weekend of November 20-22. Click here for more information, and here to buy your tickets online. With a cast of 37 congregation members, and dozens of others helping behind the scenes building props, painting backdrops, creating and acquiring costumes, running lights and sound, we are finding that it really does "take a village" for us to create the village of Anatevka for you. Though first staged in 1964, "Fiddler" still resonates in today's culture, exploring  the themes of tradition, identity and justice, and the necessity of love and compassion to make sense of a complicated world. It is not to be missed!

Auction Wrap-Up

Our Auction was a huge success, raising over $14,000 for the church. Thanks to everyone who volunteered, donated, bid, and attended for making this event such a hit!

To see what you bought, who bought the items you donated, and to find out how to pay for your items, go to the Auction website (http://togetherauction.com/ccchuu), click on Statement, and sign in. You are encouraged to send in your payment to the church or pay in person at the Auction table in the Jones Building on Sunday, November 1. Please write "Auction" on the memo line so the payment gets credited accurately.

Also, check by the Auction table on Sunday, November 1 to browse remaining Auction items including spaces at parties, vacation home rentals, and a few other select items.

Welcome

At the Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist you will find Buddhists and Jews, agnostics and Christians gathered to celebrate what bridges our differences: the power of love, the struggle for justice, and the belief that every person is precious: gay or straight, white or black, of whatever faith or nation.

Our church was founded in 1953 in a challenge to the racial segregation that prevailed in North Carolina, led by Reverend Charlie Jones.  We helped found the first integrated preschool in the state.  Ever since, our members have believed in a religion that widens the circle of freedom and compassion.

We welcome you, whatever your background and wherever you find yourself in your journey.  “Spiritual but not religious?”  “Searching but not sure?”  “None of the above?”  You may find a home here.  Unitarian Universalists are united more by the questions they ask (“Who is my neighbor?  Why do bad things happen? Where do we find strength to face adversity and loss?”) than by any single set of answers.

Children, youth, students and adults will find professionally led study groups and classes, music from Brahms to boogie, and thoughtful sermons that touch the heart.

Join us on Sunday to stretch your spirit.

We are a Welcoming Congregation

We are a congregation which has historically stood for the civil rights of all people especially those affected by racism, and homophobia.  We are a Welcoming Congregation, celebrating and affirming the active presence in our congregation of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and heterosexual members and friends, and their families.  We are actively engaged in dialogue about how to be a more racially diverse, multicultural, anti-oppressive congregation.
