Collecting Liquid Nutrition Supplements ( Ensure and Boost) & making cards for Meals on Wheels

​ORGANIZING TEAM:  WomenCircle
PROJECT:  Women Circle is collecting Boost and Ensure liquid nutritional supplements plus making cards for the Durham Meals on Wheels as their Day of Service project.  Boxes will be placed in the Commons to collect these liquid supplements and finished cards. Come to the Jones Building after Sunday Services during February where supplies will be provided to make 5 1/2  x 4 1/4 cards. Our goal is 800 cards either made at church or at home. No envelopes and sign only your first name. Items will be delivered to the director of Durham Meals on Wheels within a week after the Day of Service.  This service project is indoors; masks are optional.

Volunteers will be making cat and dog toys to donate to the Orange County Animal Shelter, and then helping clean up the playgrounds at church. ​ORGANIZING TEAM:  Immigrant Justice Initiative
PROJECT: Project: Volunteers will beautify the grounds at Frank Porter Graham Elementary School, in gratitude for providing a great introduction to the American school experience for many children in the families we help. We'll pick up litter on the playground and spruce up the outdoor classroom space: raking, trimming back overgrowth, replacing some boards, repainting wooden benches. We will supply materials for sanding, cleaning and painting. It would be helpful to bring work gloves, rakes, and garden trimmers. We'll supply disposable gloves and trash bags for litter pickup.  This service project is outdoors; masks are optional.

Cemetery Clean up Day ​

PROJECT:  Working with Liscomb Grove Missionary Baptist and Mount Giliad Missionary Baptist Churches to clean Ray Family Cemetery. Sponsored by Indigenous Memories, a non profit preserving the history of enslaved, maroon, and native American communities' sacred burial spaces. Volunteers will rake and blow leaves, remove sticks and trees, and plant foliage. Please bring water, gloves, rakes and leaf blowers if possible and chain saw if skilled at use. Refreshments will be provided.  This service project is outdoors; masks are optional.

Planter Boxes for Covenant Place

​​​ORGANIZING TEAM: Senior Men's Group
PROJECT: Volunteers will remove old planter frames, and then assemble and install 6 elevated cedar planter boxes, 2' x 8'. This is outside work that starts by moving old 6x6 timbers to a truck, hauling the existing bedding soil a short way to the woods nearby, and then assembling 6 planter box kits. Bring gloves, a shovel, crescent wrench & screw driver. We'll provide wheelbarrows and other tools required.
Covenant Place is a senior living center for 40 folks, 62+, with low income, and many with physical challenges. It's owned by Every Age - https://everyage.org/our-communities/covenant-place/
