  • 8:30 a.m. – Coffee, juice & scones
  • 9:00 a.m. – Day of Service kick-off
  • 9:15 a.m. - Teams depart to community locations to begin work on their projects. Other teams begin work at the church
  • 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.– Irish-themed Lunch
  •                                            with Celtic music by Eileen Regan and friends 
  • 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.– Afternoon projects commence
  • 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. Clean up and end

PROJECT #1:  Spring Cleaning at Charles House 
Organizing Team: Board of Trustees
Project: Volunteers will provide help both inside and outside of the three Charles House locations. Outside work includes raking, cleaning-up; inside work could include window washing and general housekeeping needs, e.g., room and pantry cleaning/reorganization.

​PROJECT #2:  Kindness Rocks and Re-Entry Backpacks

Organizing Team: Children’s Ministry Team
Project: We will fill backpacks for people coming out of the Orange County jail. 
We will also decorate “Kindness Rocks” to disburse cheer to the wider community.
Location of event:

Project: Creation of a lap blanket using knitted blocks in a Painted Desert color scheme. 
The blanket will be designed and sewn together on the Day of Service.

PROJECT #4: Help feed food insecure kids in our community! (TABLE)
Organizing Team: Community Service Ministry
Project:  We will fill bags with shelf stable foods which will be delivered to our kids the following week, stock shelves and complete other tasks designated by the volunteer coordinator at TABLE.

PROJECT #8: Habitat for Humanity Home Preservation
Organizing Team: Community Service Ministry: Habitat for Humanity 
Project Description : Repair or paint an existing home. Habitat for Humanity’s Home Preservation program helps low-income homeowners with critical repairs. Families that qualify pay a small portion of their repair costs using a sliding scale payment plan. Past repairs have included exterior painting, siding repairs or cleaning, repairing porches or decks, and repairing or installing ramps and handrails. This is not new construction. A five-person team will work in the morning and a five-person team in the afternoon.

Project: 5 different opportunities to volunteer. 1) Friday night decorating and set up; 2) Saturday morning breakfast set-up and clean-up; 3) Saturday lunch food preparation and donation; 4) Saturday lunch set up and clean-up; and 5) Final take down and clean up. PROJECT #11: Cookies & "Milk" for Seniors
Organizing Team: Rare Women
Project : bring in 6- packs (or larger) of nutritional supplements, i.e. “milk.” We will set up a collection box in the Commons and will also collect during Rare Women meetings. If we receive a lot of nutritional supplements, we will divide them for distribution to Meals on Wheels in Chatham, Orange, and Durham Counties. If we only receive a few donations, we will give them to Meals on Wheels of Chapel Hill – Carrboro (i.e. Orange County).  We will provide up to 400 cookies/muffins/brownies to be packaged on the Day of Service, frozen, and delivered to Meals on Wheels of Chapel Hill – Carrboro on Monday for distribution to their clients We'll decorate, fill, and seal the bags.  CLICK HERE to sign up to bring cookies.

Project: Painting the walls of the office and one of the classrooms.

Project: We will be collecting and sorting children’s books for Book Harvest, a North Carolina literacy nonprofit based in Durham.  In its quest to advance literacy for all children from birth through high school, Book Harvest literacy has provided over one million books to families and children across our state since 2011.

Project: Volunteers will help clean up a segment of the Booker Creek Trail in Chapel Hill. This project will be done in coordination with the non-profit organization, Friends of Chapel Hill Parks, Recreation and Greenways which is closely affiliated with the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department.

PROJECT #16: Supporting HomeStart
Organizing Team: WomenCircle
Project: Part 1. Approximately six volunteers are needed to read and play games (indoors or outside) with the children between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Can also check to make sure dining area is ready for the chili, etc. which will be coming at 12:00 p.m.
Part 2. Cooking chili, cornbread, desserts and salads. Four people cooking for each category (16 total). Each dish should serve 10 to 12 people. Food should be ready at the church for transport to Home Start by 11:30 a.m. Note if each of you can bring two or three relatively small plastic containers with lids that would be very helpful. Last year, after lunch many residents packed up the “leftovers” to put in their building refrigerators. Part 3. Approximately five volunteers are needed to set out the food and join the residents of Home Start in the meal. Note if each of you can bring two or three relatively small plastic containers with lids that would be very helpful.
