New interview sharing inspiring work
 of Diana McDuffee

A Community Church ministry, side with love is an interfaith public advocacy campaign that seeks to harness love’s power to stop oppression.  It is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Our Side With Love Ministry helps members of the congregation raise a collective voice to call for justice, and to get our feet on the street when love and justice need support. We aren't a committee, with assigned members and monthly meetings, but we do have after church gatherings 3-4 times a year, to organize participation in upcoming events, or to plan projects.  And now we do this on Zoom!  When people in the church want to take action around a justice issue, we provide resources and support to help them do that.  And we are always glad of new Love Team members, willing to join in a monthly conversation for mutual support, information sharing and future planning.

Write Here Write Now

Brenda Rogers  brogersc3h@gmail.com and our Write Here Write Now (WHWN)  task force coordinate monthly letter writing to our legislators. The letters go to our partners in the DC area, UUs for Social Justice--UUSJ-- who  personally deliver them to our Senators and Representatives and discuss our concerns. These letters to elected officials are especially effective because they are coordinated to address an issue coming up in the House and/or Senate.

They reflect our personal perspectives, concerns and values, rather than being multiple copies of a single letter.
They are personally delivered by our UUSJ partners, who can engage in conversation with our Senators, Representatives and their staff.

During the pandemic, our letters will be conveyed through email, and the meetings of UUSJ members with elected officials are held by alternative means.

October 2020 Letter:
As UUs, we are called to promote action and accountability of legislators. Multiple sources of pollution and climate change disproportionately affect minority and low-income communities’ health. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has failed to prioritize these critical environmental justice concerns.
Write personal letters to your Senators and urge them to adequately fund and expand environmental justice programs at EPA. Letters should be RECEIVED by Wednesday, October 14, emailed to Brenda Rogers here or mailed to Brenda Rogers, 19204 Stone Brook, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.For more information and a sample letter click here.

Poor People's Campaign
A campaign uniting people across the nation to challenge the evils of systemic racism,
poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality of religious nationalism.

Side With Love has been a partner with the Rev. William Barber in this powerful moral movement to call attention to the needs of the poor.  “It’s not enough just to be awake. It’s not the waking, it’s the rising.  They are holding weekly rallies and action meetings on Zoom now on Mondays.

More Side with Love News and Activities

Pridefest
Every year we work with area UU’s to get ourselves “in” at the annual Pridefest in September. Recently we have entered a float in the parade, as well as a marching unit and a booth on the festival grounds. We need a GLBTQ Task Force to communicate and plan with similar groups in other UU churches as well as with our own church members, and to recruit volunteers for our share of the many tasks. This year it’s our turn to coordinate these activities, so we would do well to have a strong task force with two co-leaders up and running by this spring, rather than waiting till late summer. Let Margaret Cox, garet39@gmail.com, know if you are interested.

Our Side With Love Ministry helps members of the congregation raise a collective voice to call for justice, and to get our feet on the street when love and justice need support.  What if you see another issue on which Love calls you to take a stand? Find one or two people who share your concern and are willing to serve on a Task Force, and the Standing on the Side of Love Ministry Team will help you get started. Just let us know how we can help you Stand on the Side of Love.
