DESCRIPTION:  Heroes  needed at a table during the Day of Service breakfast  to encourage members to make their appointments for the April Blood  drive. After the Day of Service, volunteers can work with the Blood committee to submit monthly newsletter forms, make signs for display at Sunday services reminding members to make blood donation appointments as well.

SIGNS OF FASCISM roadside display

​​​PROJECT SQUAD:  Side with Love
DESCRIPTION:   We will hold large-lettered signs describing "Signs of Fascism" at 25-foot intervals along Franklin Street, spreading out away from Peace & Justice Plaza, in two 45-minute shifts. We will also have handouts that can be given to pedestrians before and/or after the shifts.  

Participants partaking in breakfast at the church may travel together by the D bus, leaving from the church at 9:30 am (8 minute walk), or they can drive separately, park downtown, and meet us at Peace & Justice Plaza.

Participants should wear their Side With Love church t-shirts if possible. These are available at the Love Table at Sunday Socials and at the Day of Service breakfast.

Cat toys are fidgets made by trimming and decorating cardboard tubes. Donations of paper towel and toilet paper tubes are welcome!

DESCRIPTION: Invasive Chinese Privet Removal at Carolina North Forest in Chapel Hill. The highly invasive Chinese privet growing along Bolin Creek in Carolina North Forest is some of the worst in Chapel Hill. And the many mature privets drop 10s of 1000s of berries into Bolin Creek. Fortunately, volunteers can make an enormous impact on this native ecosystem threat. Join us for a morning of privet removal and help us heal one of the most important natural areas in Chapel Hill.

Cookie Heroes

​​​DESCRIPTION:  We will bake 150 fresh cookies and deliver them to the Weaver's Grove Habitat for Humanity construction site. Be a baking hero, a delivery hero or both!
*  Baking Heroes will make cookies at home, packaging them in any sort of disposable container.  Cookies should be brought to the church by 11:00am on the Day of Service. 
* Delivery Heroes leave the church at 11:15am to deliver the cookies to the construction site.   
All Heroes are invited to the church for the Day of Service breakfast and lunch.

Creating an Outdoor Zen Den

​​PROJECT SQUAD:  Immigrant Justice Initiative
SCENE DESCRIPTION: Heroes will help clean up an abandoned playground space to transform it into an outdoor "zen den" for teachers and staff to have a place to gather, share a meal together, and take a breather from the hustle and bustle of the school day. Outside work on this space and around the school grounds will include weeding, raking, sweeping, picking up trash, hauling away old equipment, and possibly building and placing picnic tables and flower planters. 
Volunteers should bring work gloves, a water bottle, and tools like rake, broom, shovel (if you have them!)

DESCRIPTION:   Charles House is named after our first minister Charlie Jones. Volunteers with help both inside and outside of the main Charles House location. DESCRIPTION:  This is a monthly Community Cooking Day, when MCJC gets their Northside historic black community together to cook and eat a meal in one another's company. For the March Cooking Day, a UNC Student Leadership Group will be leading a fish fry and line dancing workshop in the front yard of the MCJC (512 W Rosemary St.) Even though it might not feel like hard work, attendance at this event is important as a community engagement event! Set-up will likely begin 11:30am/12noon and event 1p-2:30p.
