A Letter from Reverend Thom

February 1, 2025 Dear Beloved Congregants, Lou Gehrig famously said, “Today, I feel like the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” I often feel like the luckiest minister on the face of the earth. What luck to get to share ministry with so many wise, capable, and devoted leaders who serve on the Board and lead our numerous ministries and groups! What luck to work with the world’s best staff team! Glenn, Marion, Kat, Rachel, Franklin, Abigail, Ariadna, and Jenn are talented, dedicated, and passionate about our church. And, what luck to get to minister with such a generous congregation! Year after year your generosity allows us to fully fund our programs, fairly compensate our staff, and maintain our campus. Each year I am astounded, but not surprised, by your generosity. A miracle is what it is! Our generosity model of stewardship asks people to consider their financial resources each year during the Annual Pledge Drive and to fill out a pledge form indicating their intention to give as generously as they are able in the coming church year. The idea is that if everyone who participates in the life of our church fills out a pledge form and gives as generously as they are able, we will be able to fully fund our budget. As I consider my own giving to the church, I consider my own gratitude for the middle school program my daughter enjoys. I consider the music that touches my soul. I consider all the wonderful people I love being with in this community. I consider the justice work that reflects my own values. And, I consider my dreams and hopes for our church in the coming year. My family’s financial situation allows me to increase my pledge this year, which I do joyfully. This year, there is another piece of information we are providing. The “Transparent Generosity” sheet provides at the different levels at which people give to support our congregation. My main takeaway from this chart is that it takes all of us to support our church. We are deeply fortunate to belong to such an amazing community. Thank you for your generous support. With Love, Rev.
