Current Project Status
A new phase of the Building Project is now launched! The exploratory phase represented by "Our Space - Our Future" and predecessor efforts over the past four years has concluded, and we move into a series of well-ordered steps based on the results of those efforts and inspired by the concept of "Building on Our Legacy." An insert in the September 3 Order of Service explains the significance of that concept, and highlights events in which everybody in the congregation is invited to participate. The master schedule of specific events will be updated regularly.
There is now, as of July, a constant display in the Jones Building alcove, depicting the proposed building elements and their relationship to the congregation’s priorities for remodeling and expanding our space. A floor plan and some conceptual drawings are posted to encourage visualization, imagination and discussion. This display along with regular Sunday tabling will continue to provide updated information and to solicit comments, questions and participation, for the duration of the project development phase. We also encourage questions and comments via
email from this website.
A singular update of interest is that we have already received $250,000 toward our Capital Campaign by several anonymous donors who wanted to make early contributions to help pay down our outstanding loan balance from the 2006 building project. That means our debt at the end of 2018, when the balance is due, will be under $165,000 instead of $430,000 – and we will have saved over $15,000 in interest expense.
The Building Project Financial Task Force developed a Financial Plan, last updated in August 2017, for facilitating the project and its associated decisions. It provides both implementation steps and financial information. The plan is a living document that will evolve over time with improving information, advancing ideas, congregational decisions, and other events.
